1. Scientists Reverse Brain Damage in Drowned Toddler

In what is thought to be a world first, US scientists reversed the brain damage caused when two-year old Eden Carlson fell into a swimming pool in February 2016.

The revolutionary procedure involved 40 sessions of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), and you can read more about Eden’s amazing recovery here.

2. Utah Couple Charged With Giving Newborn Drugs To Hide Mother’s Addiction

In Utah, parents of a newborn and two other children have been charged with drugging their newborn baby with heroin and morphine.

The couple has three other children, and two of these also tested positive for methamphetamine.

3. Toddler Dies, Brother Seriously Ill After Petting Zoo Visit

Following a visit to a petting zoo in Minnesota, a two-year old died and her 5-year old brother is in serious condition after contracting E-Coli. The toxic bacteria caused non-stop bloody diarrhea and vomiting. The animals from the zoo have since been removed to further protect the public.

4. Killed By A Kiss – Newborn Dies After Contracting Meningitis

An 18-day old baby from Iowa has died after contracting Meningitis HSV-1. Mariana Reese Sifrit is believed to have been kissed by a non-family member who had a cold sore and passed on the deadly infection.

5. Baby Dies In Hot Car While Mother Gets Hair Done

A mother in Atlanta left her baby in a car for 6-hours while she had a hairdressing appointment. Dijanelle Fowler, 25, left the car’s a/c running but the battery ran down.

After she finished her hair, she got a jump start and drove around for hours with her dead baby. It took investigators weeks to track her down.

6. Californian Paediatrician Refuses To Treat Non-Vaccinated Children

A Californian Paediatrician caused a social-media storm when he took to Facebook to publicize his policy of not treating non-vaccinated children. Dr. Mike Ginsberg wrote, “If you will not vaccinate then you will leave my practice”.

7. High-fat Diet During Pregnancy Can Cause Mental Health Problems In Kids

A new study from the Oregon Health & Social University and published in the journal Frontiers in Endocrinology shows that a high-fat diet during pregnancy can lead to anxiety and depression in our children.

8. Parents With Kids Limited To One Alcoholic Drink at N.Y. Restaurant

Peddlers Bar & Bistro in Clifton Park, New York has taken a stand against drunk driving with kids.

The restaurant has limited parents to just one alcoholic beverage with their meal – and invite those who complain to leave their establishment.

9. New Therapy Might Cure Kids Of Food Articles

Popular parenting site Scary Mommy reported that Oral immunotherapy (OIT) can help kids beat food allergies. An encouraging test case was described in which a young boy overcame his peanut allergy by gradual exposure to his allergens.

10. 2 Dads Launch “GoFundMe” to Beat Lunch Shaming

A couple of big-hearted fathers are almost halfway to their $10,000 goal on Gofundme. They are fundraising to provide free lunches to low-income kids in Pheonix. There is no minimum donation!

Recalls

There were a couple of significant product recalls this week.

Manhattan Toy – Winkel™ Colorburst Activity Toys

Manhattan Toy have recalled almost 15,000 units of its “Winkel Colorburst Activity Toys” which was sold between 2015-2016 for around $15.

The tubes on the toy (which was made in China) can break into small pieces and become a safety hazard.

iRover Self-Balancing Scooter / Hoverboard

IRover has recalled about 2,800 units of its self-balancing scooters/hoverboards due to a fire-hazard. The lithium batteries are in danger of overheating and catching fire.

The product was sold between December 2015 – December 2016 for between $300 to $400.
